RIDGEFIELD -- At least 15 Ridgefield high school students have been charged with looting the home of a family away on vacation earlier this year, police said.
Ridgefield police spokesman Capt. Dan Ryan said the teenagers broke into the home through an unlocked bathroom window and hosted a party April 5.
The suspects' ages range from 15 to 18.
During the course of the party, several pieces of jewelry and other personal property were taken, Ryan said in a news release issued Friday.
"When officers arrived, they discovered not only that a party had already taken place, but there was also evidence that a burglary and larceny had occurred," Ryan said in the release.
"Damage to the interior of the residence did occur as a result of the party."
Investigators put the value of the stolen items at $48,000.
The charges filed were as follows:
Timothy McLean, 18, of Ridgecrest Road, was charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree larceny.
Steven Fugazy, 18, of Peaceable Street, faces charges of second-degree criminal trespass.
Eric Scala, 18, of South Olmstead Lane, was charged with second-degree criminal trespass/
A 17-year-old boy was charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree larceny, and another 17-year-old boy faces charges of first-degree burglary and sixth-degree larceny.
Six 17-year-old boys, a 17-year-old girl and three 15-year-old girls were charged with second-degree criminal trespass.
The names of suspects under 18 are withheld by police.
