STAMFORD -- Police have identified the 8-year-old boy killed Saturday evening after falling out a sixth-story window of a downtown senior housing complex.
Alexander Wu was unconscious when officers arrived at 11 North St. shortly after they were called to the 10-story building at 7:24 p.m., according to police.
Wu was immediately taken to Stamford Hospital with his father in the ambulance, and was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
Police, who offered condolences to the family in a statement Sunday, said the incident remains under investigation, but the initial investigation suggests it was a tragic accident. An autopsy will be conducted by the state medical examiner, police said.
The family, which does not live in Connecticut, was apparently visiting relatives at Rippowam Manor. Witnesses told police he was playing with his sister in the hallway when he pushed a screen on an open window and fell through the opening onto an outdoor terrace six stories below.
Rippowam Manor is owned by the Stamford Housing Authority.
